A challenging opportunity has become available for a Clinical Coding Auditor to join our team in the Health Information Services department at Northern Beaches Hospital.

This is an essential role supporting our clinical coding team within the quality and revenue assurance space.

Northern Beaches Hospital is a fully licensed private hospital providing care to public and private patients from a state-of-the-art facility with a large range of quality services provided by skilled nurses, doctors and staff.

The position would suit a highly motivated individual with excellent clinical coding skills seeking to expand/consolidate their experience working with a more complex casemix and who is ready for a new challenge.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert advice and guidance to Clinical Coders on Australian Clinical Coding Standards and National and State coding advice
  • Reviewing coded episodes prior to invoicing to minimize coding and documentation inaccuracies
  • Resolving ambiguities in the coding and documentation by seeking clarification from relevant coding advisory committees and clinicians
  • Contributing to revenue recovery analysis including identification and analysis of coding and documentation deficiencies
  • Supporting internal and external audits as required, including follow-up on audit recommendations and reports
  • Performing data and revenue quality functions as needed
  • Liaising with stakeholders regarding coding and documentation issues.

Requirements:

  • HIMAA Intermediate/Advanced Clinical Coding or auditing course
  • Strong background in clinical coding with at least 5 years of recent experience at a medium to large acute hospital
  • Keen interest and understanding of the commercial implications of coded data
  • Competency in MS Excel
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and time manage
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Management (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of webPAS patient administration system

Northern Beaches Hospital is operated by Healthscope and located in Frenchs Forest. The hospital is a contemporary 488-bed facility comprising 60% public and 40% private beds. It provides a wide range of health services including Surgery, Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Birthing, Paediatrics, Cardiac, Mental Health, Dialysis, Cancer Centre and Outpatients.

The hospital has 14 operating theatres, one hybrid/cardiac catheter theatre, two Catheter Laboratories and four endoscopy procedure rooms, all supported by a critical care unit which includes two intensive care wards.
