About the Role

The Senior Advisor to the Lord Mayor will play a crucial role in maintaining the Lord Mayor's positive relations with internal and external stakeholders, including the management of correspondence, community engagements, media, and public relations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and analysis to develop policy proposals and project-related advice for the Lord Mayor.
  • Provide strategic advice and manage relationships with key city stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and industry partners.
  • Prepare high-quality analyses, reports, briefings, and presentations for the Lord Mayor, focusing on policy development, community engagement, and stakeholder management.
  • Manage the Lord Mayor's correspondence, communications, and public relations, ensuring timely and effective responses to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the Lord Mayor's support team to ensure consistent guidance and assistance, promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Liaise with Members of Parliament, industry, and community groups on policy issues, fostering strong relationships and promoting the interests of the City of Parramatta.
  • Manage complex and politically sensitive information with confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact, ensuring the Lord Mayor's reputation and the City's interests are protected.
  • Maintain good governance to ensure risks are mitigated and planning, reporting, and statutory compliance is achieved, upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
About You:
  • A Degree qualification in policy, government, or business, or relevant experience in a highly politicized environment.
  • 5 years' experience providing advice and support to elected representatives or senior executives, with a strong understanding of local government functions and political processes.
  • Experience in a political context and understanding of Local Government, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective policy initiatives.
  • A strong understanding of local government functions and political processes, with the ability to analyze complex information and develop well-informed advice.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience in preparing speeches, briefings, and strategic reports, and the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver outcomes, with a strong focus on results and a commitment to excellence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Previous experience working in Government is essential, with a strong understanding of the City of Parramatta's policies, procedures, and priorities.

The City of Parramatta offers an attractive remuneration package, including a salary range of $134,101 to $147,701, plus 11.5% superannuation.
