Agriculture Teacher Job Description

The role of teaching at Horizon Christian School is considered to be a calling in the Christian-missional sense of the word.

Teachers desire to develop the whole child in a caring, nurturing environment in the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

An Agriculture teacher will create and implement lesson plans that align with relevant agricultural curricula, covering topics like soil science, crop production, animal husbandry, and broad acre agriculture.

  • Soil Science: Understanding the composition and structure of soils, including their physical, chemical, and biological properties.
  • Crop Production: Planning, managing, and harvesting crops, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest management.
  • Animal Husbandry: Caring for animals, including feeding, breeding, and health management.
  • Broad Acre Agriculture: Managing large-scale farming operations, including crop rotation, tillage, and equipment operation.

They will provide practical, hands-on experience through demonstrations, field projects, and managing institution-based farms, including the school's farm block ('The River Block') and livestock.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field.
  • Teaching certification or experience.
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural practices and principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
