Technical Operations Leadership

The ideal candidate will spearhead a team of laboratory technicians and field-based concrete testers, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and NATA requirements. This senior role involves collaborating with Concrete/Quarry Plant Managers, utilising laboratory technicians, and maintaining high standards of testing and reporting for ready-mixed concrete products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Lead field-based concrete testers and laboratory operations, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Coordinate the review and purchase of safety-related resources and laboratory maintenance, prioritising efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and provide data for training and competency plans, ensuring seamless onboarding and upskilling.
  • Measure and review the efficiency and effectiveness of laboratory operations, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage corrective actions and continuous improvement suggestions, driving organisational growth and development.
  • Process and distribute test results and NATA certificates, maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
  • Plan and facilitate safety meetings and reviews, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of NATA requirements and Australian Standards.
  • High level of understanding of laboratory practices and testing principles, with a focus on quality and precision.
  • Experience working with concrete products, including design, production, and quality control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of delivering results under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound leadership and participative leadership skills, with experience in motivating and inspiring teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, and QESTLab, with the ability to adapt to new systems and technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts.
  • Basic project management and presentation skills, with experience in leading projects and presenting to stakeholders.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a laboratory, within the building industry, with a strong background in quality assurance and control.
  • Qualifications in laboratory operations are highly regarded, with a preference for those with advanced degrees or certifications.
