Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) serves as the backbone of our cloud services. In the role of CO+I Critical Environment Operations Manager, you will play a vital part in delivering the essential infrastructure and foundational technologies that support Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

Operations Management

  • Act as an operations specialist in one or more key operational areas (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and independently manage advanced tasks.
  • Supervise and guide the team in inspecting critical environment-related facility equipment (e.g., controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), and regularly assess the building and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions to identify and analyze trends.
  • Monitor maintenance and operations performance using telemetry, control systems, and other platforms, and be able to identify all alarms.
  • Utilize an internal computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track all equipment assets, complete maintenance work orders, and generate reports to identify outstanding and ongoing tasks.
  • Respond swiftly and lead an onsite incident response team for all abnormal conditions affecting operations, coordinating with other critical facilities professionals to implement corrective actions.
  • Enhance, develop, or adhere to existing emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to incidents.
  • Collect necessary information and create incident timelines/data, root-cause analyses, and/or action items following any abnormal conditions.

Maintenance Oversight

  • Guide, oversee, and execute various maintenance types (e.g., planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs according to methods of procedure (MOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for one or more disciplines and types of equipment (e.g., electrical, mechanical, cooling systems), escalating issues when necessary.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for specific equipment types, overseeing daily tasks and troubleshooting within their area of expertise.
  • Provide or assign team members to escort third-party contractors, vendors, and service providers on-site for all severity leveled procedures. Coordinate and schedule supplier/vendor activities and recognize when to halt supplier work to address potential concerns.
  • Participate in initiating third-party work (e.g., ensuring systems are properly energized/de-energized), ensuring that work is conducted safely in accordance with standard practices, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Advise junior colleagues on inspection and supervision matters.
  • Offer consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and resolving issues.

Safety and Security Culture

  • Understand, adhere to, and coach the team on safety and security requirements (e.g., job hazard assessments [JHAs], toolbox talks), and business processes to perform work safely, reliably, and in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Proactively ensure compliance with safety and security requirements for oneself and others.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and promptly escalate any observed unsafe conditions.
  • Assess and identify necessary resources and equipment to support environmental health and safety (EH&S) objectives.
  • Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and necessary handoffs.
