About a remote local government area in Australia

covering over 40,000 square kilometres with a resident population of around 600.

The organisation delivers a broad range of services including civil infrastructure, utilities, corporate governance, and community support.

Following significant natural disasters, the Council now focuses on infrastructure resilience, economic diversification, and sustainable service delivery.

The organisation employs approximately 50 staff, with six direct reports to the leader, and recently adopted a new Corporate Plan to guide its future direction.

About the Role

We are seeking a transformational leader to lead the organisation through a critical period of recovery, infrastructure delivery, and regional growth.

The successful candidate will oversee implementation of long-term strategic objectives, lead management and delivery of large-scale projects, foster a high-performance culture within a multidisciplinary team, engage with all levels of government, industry partners, Traditional Owners, and the wider community, and represent the Council with visibility, integrity, and authenticity.

About You

We are looking for a commercially savvy and community-focused leader who can confidently manage complex projects, motivate a diverse team, and position the region for long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strategic thinking combined with practical problem-solving skills
  • Strong governance, risk, and financial management capabilities
  • Demonstrated leadership in complex environments
  • Political acumen and ability to build partnerships across government and industry
  • A genuine respect for Indigenous culture and experience working with First Nations stakeholders
  • A collaborative, visible, and empathetic leadership style

Experience in local government or similar complex environments is highly regarded, but not essential. We welcome applications from experienced executives from infrastructure, utilities, public sector, regional development, or similar fields.
