The Department of Justice and Community Safety is a leader in delivering justice and community safety services across Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a vital and meaningful role engaging with the local Aboriginal Community in Coolaroo for 12 months.

You will be working closely with the local Aboriginal Community, providing case management services to individuals sentenced to a Community Correction Order, reporting to the Coolaroo Justice Services Centre.

You will also provide Court Advice & Prosecutions Services (CAPS) to the Broadmeadows Koori Court sitting at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court, and engage with Aboriginal Community Organisations.

A key requirement for this role is experience working with and for the Aboriginal community of the northern suburbs of Melbourne and an understanding of the challenges faced by this community in engaging with the legal system in Victoria.

We offer comprehensive training in Case Management and Court Advice & Prosecutions Services (CAPS) as part of an initial period of pre-service training.

Key responsibilities
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Koori Community
  • Have an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both socially and culturally, and the issues impacting on it
  • Understand effective case management practices including proactively managing risk of complex individuals
  • Model pro-social behaviours, motivating and influencing individuals who are being case managed
  • Assertiveness and confidence in dealing with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours
