First Peoples Programs Officer

About the Role

This role plays a vital part in fostering engagement and understanding of the rich cultural heritage of First Peoples communities in south-eastern Australia.

  • Fostering meaningful connections between First Peoples communities and the general public through program development and delivery.
  • Enhancing cultural awareness and appreciation through educational activities, performances, and interactive experiences.
Main Responsibilities
  • Presenting diverse programs tailored to booked groups and public audiences.
  • Collaborating with teams to create programs that align with strategic goals and deliver impactful visitor experiences.
  • Preparing program materials, gathering and reporting on audience feedback, and supporting training for staff and volunteers involved in program delivery.
About You
  • A deep understanding of and strong relationships with First Peoples of south-eastern Australia, enabling effective liaison with First Peoples communities more broadly.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present First Peoples knowledge, cultures, histories, and technology for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in researching, developing, and delivering engaging programs for diverse audiences.
  • Awareness of education and learning techniques for diverse audiences, transferrable to a museum context.
