Job Title: Aboriginal Cultural Liaison Officer

This is an important role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to improve the court experience.

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services to support the performance of Victoria's courts and tribunal. Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's strategic priorities while also pursuing interconnected opportunities.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues. The Court aims to be innovative, accessible, and responsive, providing quality services to the Victorian community.

The Koori Court enhances access to justice, provides culturally appropriate services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and reduces reoffending and over representation in the criminal justice system.

About the Role

You will assist the Court in providing a more culturally appropriate response to Koori/Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in the criminal division through:

  • Assisting and advising the Court on cultural issues
  • Providing advice and access to services for Koori offenders and families
  • Raising awareness within the court system of cross-cultural issues
  • Liaising with the Aboriginal community to inform of court processes including Koori Court.
Requirements

We are looking for someone with a demonstrated understanding of cultural issues and unique challenges faced by Koori communities. You should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders, as well as the ability to plan and manage community engagement projects effectively. Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and maintaining records is also essential.
