
Humanitarian Lawyer Advisor

The International Committee of the Red Cross works worldwide to protect and assist people affected by conflict and violence.
It employs 17,000 people in over 90 countries and is financed mainly by voluntary contributions from governments and national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The organization is seeking a professional to work with its team in Canberra and collaborate with the Regional Delegation for the Pacific.

- Assists the regional legal advisor to strategize, plan, and implement programs and activities to promote international humanitarian law.
- Monitors and analyzes legislative developments in the Pacific region related to IHL.
- Researches and drafts analyses, advice, and presentations to support the regional legal advisor's activities.
- Delivers presentations on IHL and other humanitarian issues to various audiences, including government, academic circles, students, and the general public.
- Liaises with academic circles in the Pacific region regarding ICRC resources and events.
- Assists with planning, preparation, and execution of visits, meetings, and other events hosted by the organization.
You will have an understanding of the organization's work globally and adhere to its seven Fundamental Principles.
Requirements- Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification.
- A postgraduate degree in a relevant field is beneficial.
- Knowledge of IHL.
- Experience in research, analysis, and synthesis of legal and policy texts.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated initiative, autonomy, adaptability, and attention to detail.
- Capacity to set and manage priorities and complete assignments rapidly and efficiently.
- Excellent organizational and computer skills.
- Team spirit and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a culturally diverse team.
- General interest in humanitarian issues.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Conditions:
- Full-time permanent contract based in Canberra.
- Starting salary AUD95,000 plus 12% super.
- Eligible for salary sacrificing.
- Additional monthly contribution to private health insurance.
