The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to protecting and assisting people affected by conflict and violence worldwide.
As a Legal Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with our team in Canberra and collaborate with our Regional Delegation for the Pacific. This position is suitable for someone in the early stages of their career who is looking for a long-term role with opportunities for growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement programs and activities promoting International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
- Monitor and analyze legislative developments in the Pacific region related to IHL.
- Conduct research and draft analyses, advice, and presentations to support your activities.
- Deliver presentations on IHL and other humanitarian issues to various audiences.
- Liaise with academic circles in the Pacific region regarding ICRC resources and events.
- Support the planning, preparation, and execution of visits, meetings, and other events hosted by the ICRC.
- Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent)
- A post-graduate degree in a relevant field is an asset
- Knowledge of IHL
- Experience in research, analysis, and synthesis of legal and policy texts
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated sense of initiative, autonomy, adaptability, and attention to detail
- Ability to set and manage priorities, and complete assignments efficiently to meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational and computer skills
- Sense of team spirit and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- General interest in humanitarian issues
- Valid driver's license
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
