
Strategic Humanitarian Law Advisor

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team as a Legal Adviser. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in promoting humanitarian law and assisting people affected by conflict and violence.
About the RoleThe Legal Adviser will work closely with the Regional Legal Adviser to strategize, plan, and implement programs and activities to promote humanitarian law. This will involve monitoring and analyzing legislative developments in the Pacific region, researching and drafting analyses, advice, and presentations, and delivering presentations on humanitarian issues to a wide range of audiences.
- Assist the Regional Legal Adviser in promoting humanitarian law
- Monitor and analyze legislative developments in the Pacific region
- Research and draft analyses, advice, and presentations
- Deliver presentations on humanitarian issues
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent)
- A post-graduate degree in a relevant field is an asset
- Knowledge of humanitarian law
- Experience in research, analysis, and synthesis of legal and policy texts
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrated sense of initiative, autonomy, adaptability, and attention to detail
- Ability to set and manage priorities, and complete assignments rapidly and efficiently to meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational and computer skills
- Sense of team spirit, and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed team
- General interest in humanitarian issues
- Valid driver's license
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
This is a full-time position based in Canberra, Australia. The salary is competitive, and we offer a range of benefits, including:
- Salary: AUD95,000 plus 12% super
- Eligible for salary sacrificing
- Additional monthly contribution to private health insurance
