Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our Rollingstock Maintenance team at the Cairns (Portsmith) Depot.

The successful candidate will provide carpentry maintenance services to the Kuranda Scenic Railway Operations and other areas of the Rollingstock Maintenance Depot.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Performing preventative maintenance and repairs to carriages, supporting reliability and availability.
  • Contributing to the Kuranda Scenic Railway Carriage Overhaul & Refurbishment Program.
  • Participating in a semi-autonomous team environment, supporting safety, training, and depot operations.
  • Ensuring accurate data entry into maintenance systems and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Monitoring and planning operational safety practices
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have the following:

  • Certificate III in Carpentry.
  • High-level skills in overhaul, refurbishment, maintenance, and fault finding on timber structures.
  • Substantial experience working in semi-autonomous teams with minimal supervision.
  • Sound knowledge of depot maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of safety and environmental practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with quality management principles.
  • Willingness to commit to and work within established procedures and standards.

  • A 8-day fortnight roster.
  • Allowances that could result in an annual salary of over $115,000.
