Job Title: Midwife-Maternal Health Specialist

This role plays a critical part in improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by providing comprehensive and culturally sensitive primary healthcare services.

Midwife Role:

The successful applicant will deliver antenatal and postnatal care to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women in the Goldfields region, collaborating with other maternity providers to ensure timely and culturally appropriate care that addresses the gap in maternal health outcomes.

In addition to this, the position will provide specialist child health services to Indigenous children and their families, including scheduled child health screening, enhanced child health screening, child immunization programs, and childhood vaccinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively as part of a small team to achieve health goals for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance health outcomes.
  • Provide high-quality patient care, focusing on cultural sensitivity and a patient-centered approach.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Undertake travel throughout the region, including overnight stays, as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Nursing and/or Midwifery qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of Primary Health Care principles and issues affecting ATSI women and families during the perinatal period.
  • Ability to work confidentially and accurately.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and time management ability.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic environment.
  • WA 'C' Class drivers' licence.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience providing community-based antenatal and postnatal care within Australian nursing standards.
  • Current Immunisation provider certificate.
  • Proficiency using electronic patient information systems like Communicare or similar software.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (WA).
  • National Criminal History Check Certificate (Police Clearance - valid within 3 months).
  • Current AHPRA registration.
  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate.
