Defence Reform Leader

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to lead the reform of the Defence ecosystem.
Role OverviewThe Australian Government invites applications for the inaugural Defence and Veterans Service Commissioner role, established in response to a Royal Commission recommendation on Defence and Veteran Suicide.
This new entity will provide independent oversight and evidence-based advice to government on system reforms to improve wellbeing outcomes for serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members.
Main Responsibilities- Provide leadership and oversight of Defence ecosystem reform as the Defence and Veterans Service Commissioner on a full-time basis.
- Exercise legislative powers while maintaining independence and upholding the Commission's authority.
- Develop strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including those with lived experience of suicide and suicidality.
- Able to perform independently and lead reform in the Defence ecosystem, exercising professional judgement and decision-making skills.
- Eligibility and suitable qualifications for the role, including relevant background, skills, and experience for the position.
- Willingness to serve as Defence and Veterans Service Commissioner for up to five years, providing long-term commitment to the role.
