Overview of the Role
As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Specialist, you will be instrumental in executing initiatives that foster diversity, ensure fairness, and enhance the inclusion of underrepresented groups within our organization. With a primary emphasis on disability, your mission will be to elevate the employment engagement of individuals with disabilities, facilitating their success in the workplace. This role offers a unique chance to collaborate with leadership and operational teams to cultivate an inclusive and accessible environment, where individuals with disabilities are valued for their talents and distinctiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitating the hiring and employment of individuals with disabilities within the National Contact Centre.
- Assessing the skills and requirements of individuals with disabilities to identify appropriate employment opportunities.
- Partnering with Job Access Providers and Disability Employment Service Providers to recruit suitable candidates.
- Supporting and enabling reasonable adjustments to recruitment processes, including applicant evaluation and interviews.
- Coaching and guiding individuals with disabilities and leaders in managing diverse teams effectively.
- Creating and delivering training on diversity awareness and inclusion, addressing myths, stereotypes, and biases.
- Collaborating with leaders to identify and implement reasonable workplace accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
- Designing and executing initiatives and programs that enhance inclusion and engagement throughout the organization.
- Advocating for the rights and needs of underrepresented groups, working to dismantle barriers to employment and promote equal opportunities.
- Monitoring and analyzing employment participation rates of individuals with disabilities, utilizing data and feedback to refine DE&I initiatives.
Candidate Profile
You are a dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion, possessing excellent communication skills and a profound understanding of the impacts of disability and necessary accommodations. Your approach is characterized by empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to establish trust and rapport with clients and stakeholders. You are proactive and adept at developing and implementing DE&I initiatives, with a collaborative mindset to engage with various teams and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- A commitment to serving the community and working with individuals with additional needs.
- Experience in executing successful practices and initiatives that support the employment of individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with community outreach services, vocational rehabilitation programs, and disability employment services.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Empathy, patience, and sensitivity in engaging with diverse individuals.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships.
- Experience in job design, placement, or vocational assessment is highly regarded.
- Exposure to a contact centre or service-oriented industry is advantageous.
