The Opportunity

An experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) professional is required to shape and drive enterprise HSE strategy, management systems, and operating models that ensure best practice and progressive leadership. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborating with leadership teams to develop and implement a robust HSE strategic plan that delivers best practice and progressive safety culture.
  • Safety Culture Transformation: Shaping and embedding a safety-first culture with a strong focus on collaboration, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership teams, and supporting them to implement learning and awareness programs that promote and embed safety culture and practice.
  • Safety Management Systems: Refining, implementing, and continuously improving robust safety management systems that ensure wellbeing, facilitate business objectives, and meet compliance requirements.
  • Risk & Compliance: Providing expert guidance on safety challenges, risk management, and injury prevention while ensuring compliance with all statutory and contractual obligations.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: Supporting leaders in enhancing their safety leadership capabilities and practices to foster improvements in safety cultural maturity.
  • Change Management: Collaborating, innovating, and delivering a practical and pragmatic roadmap for change with the necessary support to embed new ways of working.
  • Incident Management: Managing incidents and acting as the interface with regulatory authorities and internal/external legal practitioners where required.
  • Performance & Reporting: Measuring performance against organisational objectives and national data to proactively pursue strategies that improve performance and prevent incidents.

Required Skills and Qualifications

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications and certificates in Health, Safety, and Environment-related disciplines.
  • At least 15 years of experience leading health, safety, and wellbeing functions for complex enterprises, preferably listed organisations.
  • Experience presenting, engaging, and building constructive relationships with diverse audiences, from operations to Board and Executive level.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary safety concepts, theories, and business enablers with the ability to bring a lens of what good looks like.
  • Strong business transformation experience and a track record of implementing HSE systems, practices, and projects with excellent business adoption.
  • Experience in Transport, Logistics/Warehousing or related heavy industry.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the HSW legislative frameworks across all jurisdictions.
