Job Overview

  • Leadership Role

The Lead Counsel will provide expert legal advice to support Disney's business units in Australia and NZ, with a focus on Disney+ and Content Sales & Distribution.

  • Disney+ - advise and negotiate distribution deals, ensure compliance with consumer laws, and supervise legal clearance for marketing materials.
  • Content Sales & Distribution - supervise the drafting and negotiation of key content licence agreements and manage one direct report.
  • ESPN Channel distribution & rights acquisition - advise and negotiate affiliate channel distribution deals and local rights acquisitions.
  • Management responsibilities - manage one direct report, delegate work, and provide coaching and mentoring.
  • Policies - drive the formulation and implementation of legal and regulatory policies.
  • Advise the wider local business on relevant areas of law and policy.

Key Requirements

  • Significant experience as a qualified lawyer with private practice experience and in-house legal department experience.
  • Admitted to practice law in any State or Territory of Australia.
  • Proven experience in advising and/or working in the Australian or comparable international media and entertainment industry.
  • Experience in managing, supervising and mentoring junior lawyers/team members.
