Lead Counsel Opportunity

The role of Lead Counsel is crucial to our Australian and New Zealand operations, supporting the Disney+ and Content Sales & Distribution business areas. As a trusted advisor, this position will provide expert legal guidance to these units, helping them achieve their strategic and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide counsel on distribution, partnership, and promotional deals for Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Supervise the drafting and negotiation of content licence agreements for the distribution of Disney's motion pictures and television programming.
  • Manage one direct report and act as a guide for other lawyers, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance review and development.
  • Drive the formulation, drafting, and implementation of legal and regulatory policies, best practice guidelines, and training for the ANZ Disney+ and Content Sales business teams.
Ideal Experience:
  • Significant experience (minimum 15+ years) as a qualified lawyer with private practice experience and in-house legal department experience, focused on IP, commercial, and media and entertainment law.
  • Admitted to practice law in any State or Territory of Australia and hold a current Australian State or Territory practising certificate.
  • Proven experience of advising and/or working in the Australian or comparable international media and entertainment industry, including digital product management and related marketing, and content distribution and monetisation.
  • Experience in managing, supervising, and mentoring junior lawyers/team members.
