Job Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our organisation as an Aboriginal Patient Navigator.

This role is part of our First Nations Health Unit, led by the Director of Aboriginal Health, which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of First Nations people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, provide and coordinate First Nation patient and consumer care.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the Aboriginal Community, Aboriginal Organisations, and community providers.
  • Perform and support nurses to perform culturally safe interventions and procedures in accordance with Indigenous best practice and organisational policies & procedures.
  • Assist with clinical interpretation for other First Nations Liaison Officer team members.
  • Provide quality patient-focused care to First Nations patients and their carers as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develop internal networks and relationships to improve the delivery of care to First Nations Cancer patients, within and external to the organisation.

About You

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, society, and kinship networks.
  • Show commitment to providing First Nations health services in mainstream health, primary care, or welfare sectors.
  • Have well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written health communication skills.
  • Understand state and local First Nations Health issues and initiatives.
  • Possess relevant qualifications, such as Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
