Job Description

As a Senior Dairy Cattle Stockperson, you will be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of milk production processes, including milking shed routines. You will also coordinate and implement reproductive programs such as artificial insemination, herd fertility management, detection of estrous, and pregnancy.

You will assist in controlled breeding experiments aimed at developing improved livestock strains and implement calving procedures, including conducting internal assessments to minimize stillbirths or injuries to cows or calves.

You will plan and manage pastures and crops for livestock production and develop feeding plans. You will analyze produce to maintain quality standards and supervise animal health programs, handle sick or injured animals, and maintain an environment consistent with the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines – Cattle.

You will supervise work routines and staff performance, including less experienced employees such as assistant farmhands. You will implement and monitor quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.

You will operate milking plant and equipment safely, including recording instrument data like milk vat temperatures and cow identification. You will feed calves, including tubing colostrum, and assist with irrigation works as needed.

You will inspect livestock to assess feed efficacy, handle and store chemicals safely, and operate farm vehicles, plant, and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting any malfunctions.

You will perform maintenance on sheds, fixtures, fittings, fences, and install new equipment where qualified. You will transport stock, feed, and equipment with appropriate licenses and maintain accurate records for stock and inventory control.

You will ensure compliance with food safety regulations, contribute to and adhere to OHS requirements, and operate computer systems and software related to farm management.

You will coordinate responses to occupational health, safety, and animal welfare emergencies and participate in industry training sessions and workshops as required.
