Dairy Farm Technician Job Description

This position is a challenging opportunity to work in agriculture and animal husbandry. As a skilled Dairy Farm Technician, you will be responsible for the care and management of dairy livestock.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform artificial insemination on livestock for breeding purposes.
  • Use knowledge of animal anatomy to identify optimal insemination conditions.
  • Provide guidance on breeding selection and techniques.
  • Maintain and evaluate records of all insemination history.
  • Clean equipment to ensure sanitary breeding practices.
  • Vaccinate animals when necessary.
  • Treat animals humanely.
  • Store semen for insemination.
  • Follow proper safety protocols when handling hazardous materials.
  • Inspect animals and identify harmful pathogens or infections.
  • Perform treatments and controlling methods.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Report regularly to the operations manager.
  • Attend meetings and participate in site discussions.
  • Ensure company obligations are met and quality training is conducted safely.
  • Maintain farm facilities and equipment in a clean condition.
  • Adhere to biosecurity guidelines.
  • Promote the company's good standing in the community.

Required Skills:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge in animal husbandry, animal welfare, legislation, dairy production, and OH&S.
  • Knowledge in computer programs/software is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Agriculture or higher equivalent.
  • At least 3 years recent relevant work experience.
