The Role:

Utilize your insurance knowledge and passion for animals in the role of Senior Product & Underwriting Analyst – Pet Insurance. Spearhead innovative insurance offerings for pet owners, ensuring that pets receive the necessary care. Design and implement a state-of-the-art pet insurance solution that aligns with Auto & General's risk management strategy. Oversee comprehensive product lifecycle activities, including product management and underwriting. Monitor portfolio performance, enhance customer value and service, and maintain precise product documentation. Your input in risk selection, product innovation, and portfolio oversight is vital. Collaborate with internal partners, including our underwriting agency, to optimize the product lifecycle and maximize value delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Product and Underwriting:

  • Assist in the creation and enhancement of Pet Insurance solutions.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of product strategies, including compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage underwriting rules and guidelines to uphold the integrity of the underwriting process.
  • Continuously refine the pet insurance risk selection process to meet A&G's business objectives and desired customer outcomes, including regular reviews of underwriting criteria.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate underwriting governance and controls.
  • Oversee product documentation, including Product Disclosure Statements and Target Market Determinations, and review customer-facing documents.
  • Work closely with the Lifestyle Pricing team to enhance rating sophistication and competitiveness.
  • Research and analyze the Australian pet insurance market, including trends in risk selection, product offerings, customer preferences, and regulatory changes.
  • Engage with Customer Dispute Resolution, Legal & Compliance teams to ensure timely reporting and resolution of product-related issues.
  • Support the GM-Lifestyle in the timely delivery of Pricing & Underwriting Committee agenda items.

Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Develop, implement, and track key performance indicators for the pet insurance portfolio, providing oversight and early intervention to meet business objectives.

Business & Change Management:

  • Assist in the ongoing improvement of the pricing and underwriting engine and related IT projects.
  • Define and implement initiatives to enhance the Quote and Sales journey and overall customer experience.
  • Oversee and contribute to comprehensive User Acceptance Testing processes to ensure proper implementation of product and underwriting changes.
  • Monitor project progress and initiatives, taking corrective actions as necessary and assisting with post-implementation evaluations.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pet insurance, focusing on product development, underwriting, portfolio management, pricing, or claims.
  • Thorough understanding of pet insurance trends and best practices regarding product features, underwriting rules, and methodologies for profitable growth.
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as business, economics, finance, law, or actuarial science are preferred.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills for monitoring and interpreting insurance portfolio data.
  • High commercial acumen with strategic thinking capabilities and a solid understanding of business processes and operational challenges.
  • Familiarity with legislative and compliance frameworks related to financial services.
  • Proficient in IT and capable of learning new systems, with medium proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven ability to foster constructive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
