At the core of our mentorship program lies a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Defence students.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Defence Support Mentor. This part-time position requires approximately 2-3 days of work per week and demands prior experience in a similar role, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Our Defence Support Mentor will play a pivotal role in assisting new students and their families to integrate into our school and local community. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the social and emotional wellbeing of Defence students, assisting them to develop self-confidence and resilience, and providing support during times of parental absence.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with ease. A positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist new students and their families to integrate into the school and local community
  • Monitor the social and emotional wellbeing of Defence students
  • Assist students to develop self-confidence and resilience
  • Refer students to services or school and community programs that meet their needs
  • Enhance awareness and appreciation of the unique Defence lifestyle in schools and communities
  • Provide support to children during times of parental absence
  • Develop and implement programs and resources that address issues and needs
  • Record student support delivered using the Schools Student Information System
  • Support students to integrate and connect in the playground and with peers
Requirements:
  • Prior experience in a similar role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of data collection and reporting
