We’re looking for a Family and Carer Peer Worker to become a valued part of our Community Mental Health team at Sutherland Hospital.

This is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to make real change. In this role, you'll use your personal experience to support families and carers, advocate for their needs, and help shape a mental health service that truly embraces recovery-oriented and family-focused care.

What You'll Be Doing

- Building strong, compassionate relationships with families and carers
- Providing peer support, advocacy, and guidance through group work, education, and one‑on‑one support
- Working side‑by‑side with a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery principles like hope, choice, self‑determination, and connection
- Helping to develop family‑focused resources, and supporting continuous improvement in how we deliver care
- Contributing to service planning, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives

Selection Criteria

- Lived experience as a family member or carer for a person experiencing mental health challenges.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in the health promotion field, or combination of both study and work experience or for Non‑Grad a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
- Experience accessing and navigating health care services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current local, State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health.
- Familiar with lived experience values and principles, recovery principles, trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to provide quality written documentation through the use of proficient IT skills.
- Demonstrated a strong interest in new knowledge and emerging practices relevant to the being a Familyand Carer Peer Support Worker.
- Current Drivers Licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
