About working at RMH Mental Health Services (RMH MHS)

We partner with consumers and carers to provide holistic, person-centred support that promotes hope and wellbeing, guided by The Melbourne Way—putting people first, leading with kindness, and achieving excellence together.

About the Role

We are seeking a Carer Peer Support Worker to play a key role in supporting carers and family members of people accessing our Post Discharge Mental Health Support Programs, specifically within the Hospital Outreach Post‑Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) Program.

Drawing on your own lived experience of caring for someone with mental ill health, you will provide emotional support, information, and connections to help carers navigate the challenges of supporting a loved one through crisis and recovery.

In this role you will:

- Provide one‑to‑one emotional and practical support to carers via face‑to‑face, telephone, or video contact

- Help carers identify their own needs and focus on wellbeing

- Facilitate linkages to appropriate supports and community resources

- Share lived experience in ways that empower and inspire hope

- Work collaboratively with clinical and lived experience colleagues across RMH

- Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality and ethical standards

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Lived experience as a carer for someone with mental ill health who has accessed public mental health services

- Understanding of the challenges facing carers and families in mental health settings

- The ability to draw on your lived experience to bring hope and empowerment to others

- Effective communication and teamwork skills

- Confidence to work independently while maintaining connection and supervision

Benefits of Working with Us

- Generous leave entitlements – 5 weeks annual leave, 17.5% leave loading and monthly ADOs for full‑time employees

- Salary packaging options – earn up to $12,000 tax‑free income

- Discounted health and wellness facilities through Fitness Passport

- Access to regular supervision, professional development, and peer support opportunities

- Flexible work arrangements, including weekend and after‑hours shifts

Interested?

If you’re passionate about supporting carers and families and want to use your lived experience to make a difference — we’d love to hear from you.
