Your Opportunity
As the Student Management System (SMS) Manager you will:
- contribute to the achievement of the Region's business goals and strategies by leading the management of the SMS and associated communication and training activities
- represent the Region's interest in TAFE Queensland SMS-related networks and working/focus groups to ensure regional needs are represented and supported throughout the implementation of change processes
- lead the Region's SMS support team in the delivery of SMS-related activities inclusive of Awards and Data Compliance to support the achievement of organisational business objectives.
This position reports to the Manager, Educational Operations.
This is a temporary, full-time opportunity, to 26 June 2026 unless otherwise determined.
The position will be based primarily at Loganlea campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
- Live a safety culture, lead by example and support the Health Safety and Environment Management System to create a TAFE Queensland Brisbane-wide safety culture.
- Lead, manage and develop a team of SMS specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration and improvement, and recognising and addressing opportunities to improve performance.
- Provide leadership and act as the authoritative reference point with respect to Region management, communication and training activities in relation to the SMS.
- Coordinate data quality activities for the region and ongoing maintenance of a reporting framework supporting key stakeholders in support of revenue realisation for TAFE Queensland.
- Lead SMS related projects by applying appropriate and collaborative project management strategies and commitment to achieving quality outcomes using effective change management techniques and processes.
- Engage with the Region's Senior Executive Team, educational Business Managers and operational Managers to ensure they remain well informed of impending changes and are supported in initiating action where required.
- Manage the system security configuration for SMS users, ensuring compliance with departmental audit requirements and in line with TAFE Queensland's guidelines for segregation of duties.
- Develop and maintain regular and effective communication links with TAFE Queensland units such as Student Systems Support, Product Systems Support (PSS) and SMS stakeholders within other Regions.
- Actively represent the Region's views and business needs, communicating with influence to ensure system enhancement strategies are aligned to regional requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures and actively lead and coordinate reviews to capitalise on opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Prepare submissions, briefing materials and reports for the Senior Executive Team to inform decision-making on future direction and use of SMS system capabilities, provide updates, identify risks and propose detailed risk mitigation strategies.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
- Extensive knowledge of TAFE Queensland's Student Management System and associated interfaces, including the ability to understand system configurations, associated legislation, policies, and procedures and develop best practice business processes.
- Demonstrated high level analytical, conceptual and innovative problem-solving skills, including the ability to independently research, analyse, develop and recommend practical strategies and/or options and implement solutions to enhance business performance and improve business processes.
- Highly developed communication, negotiation, problem solving, and relationship management skills as evidenced by a record of achievement in developing and effectively managing positive and collaborative partnerships with a wide variety of key stakeholders in challenging work environments.
- Demonstrated high-level project management skills and experience including program leadership, allocation and management of resources, coordination and prioritisation of a broad range of activities, and the review and analysis of program outcomes.

- Knowledge of the TechnologyOne Product Suite including Student Management System (SMS), TAFE Queensland Student Management System (SMS) configuration and relevant SMS interfaces and IT applications would be highly regarded.
