Principal Strategic Planner - Policy Research Officer

Join City of Moreton Bay as a Principal Strategic Planner – Policy Research Officer and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

The Strategic Planning and Place Making Department takes a strategic approach to long term planning and policy development to shape the growth, urban form, accessibility, and livability of our region whilst managing natural hazards and protecting and conserving our natural resources, environment, and heritage. The department’s plans, programs and initiatives are structured to meet the requirements of the Southeast Queensland Regional Plan and related State legislation, in addition to supporting local demands and needs.

In this role you will provide specialist planning expertise and lead the delivery of highly complex strategic planning and placemaking projects and services. Specifically, you will provide planning advice and feedback on land use planning and development policy and related legislative updates, as well as leading research into how planning scheme policy is being implemented to improve development outcomes on the ground.

Additionally, you will

- undertake ongoing research and analysis of changes in land use planning and development policy and related legislation as it applies to City of Moreton Bay

- facilitate project-based community consultation including representing Council at a range of customer meetings, community and business forums

- support the development of team capability

- build high level relationships across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders

You will have extensive experience in analysing and interpreting development related federal, state, and local government legislation, with emphasis on planning legislation and statutory instruments. Hold a Degree in Urban and Regional planning or equivalent qualification, along with substantial knowledge and experience in providing specialist advice on land use planning policy.

You will also have

- substantial experience in project management and associated risk management practices

- strong research and analytical skills with the ability to translate complex policy and legislative information into easy to understand language

- excellent communication skills to communicate complex legislative and policy information

- ability to lead projects and teams in response to changes in direction in uncertain or emergent circumstances
