Overview
Division: Independent Public School - North Metropolitan Education Region
Salary: Level 3, $137,428 - $150,385 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2023)
This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026
Perth Modern School, a proud public school, is Western Australia’s only fully selective school for academically gifted students in Years 7 to 12. Centrally located in Subiaco, the school honours rich traditions, empowers those present and shapes the future for gifted and talented learners and leaders.
At Perth Modern School, leaders emphasise the importance of connection and relationships in the process of listening, thinking and learning together. We partner with families, carers, and alumni, to successfully navigate change and improve student outcomes; ensuring a community where everyone belongs. In the early years, this means ensuring every student is known and understood, their needs and unique potential nurtured. As students progress, they are supported as self-motivated learners and leaders who are; courageous, curious, compassionate, committed and collaborative, encouraged to pursue their dreams, and resourced to achieve both academic excellence and positive wellbeing.
This 12-month opportunity, commencing in 2026, is to backfill a leave position and presents as an inspirational leadership experience for an aspiring or current leader. It offers a rare chance to lead one of Western Australia’s most dynamic and high-achieving music programs, working with exceptionally talented students and educators.
The Role
As Head of Music, you would be part of the school’s administrative leadership team, working closely with the Executive team to shape the future of music education at Perth Modern School. You would lead a team of highly skilled and dedicated music educators, guide curriculum development and whole-school pedagogy, while fostering a culture of excellence through the values of courage, curiosity, compassion, commitment, and collaboration. With access to some of Western Australia’s most talented student musicians, you’ll be empowered to drive enrichment and extension opportunities through a diverse program of ensembles, instrumental instruction, concerts, and performances.
This role offers a unique leadership experience, combining strategic planning, change management, and community engagement. You would contribute to whole-school planning and policy development, while also supporting staff through professional learning and performance development.
Please note: The music program may include activities outside regular school hours, and your leadership will be key in coordinating and supporting these events.
Whether you are seeking to broaden your leadership experience or embed yourself in a high-performing public school environment, this role offers a valuable stepping stone toward future leadership positions in education.
