Job Description
Drive compliance outcomes on landmark and intriguing projects across the nation.
Philip Chun is one of Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary building compliance consultancies (est. 1990), advising across building code, accessibility and essential services. Our national team includes Accredited Building Surveyors/Certifiers, Access Consultants, Airport Building Controllers and ESM specialists, partnering on landmark projects across commercial, residential, health, education, industrial, government, retail, transport and public infrastructure.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking a Building Surveyor (Level 1) to join our Brisbane team. Working with a collaborative group of specialists, you’ll lead NCC (Class 2–9) consulting from concept through completion—growing client relationships, driving effective compliance management on some landmark projects and contributing to practice growth within a supportive, high-performing team.
What you’ll do
- Deliver the day-to-day functions of a Level 1 Building Surveyor/Private Certifier across Class 2–9 projects.
- Prepare NCC/BCA compliance reports and audits on new and existing buildings
- Assess building development applications and issue building approvals, conduct site inspections, and issue final certification in a range of different legislative environments.
- Review and proactively advise on the timely management of performance-based solutions, working with fire engineers, other professionals and QFES as required.
- Provide clear written and verbal advice on regulatory strategy, compliance pathways and risk/issue resolution.
- Prepare proposals/fees and support practice growth through quality service, follow-up and client care.
- Represent Philip Chun in meetings and workshops with project teams and stakeholders.
- Support a positive team culture—train, mentor and guide junior staff.
What you’ll bring
- QBCC Building Certifier Level 1 registration or accreditation.
- 3+ years’ experience delivering Class 2–9 projects.
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying.
- Strong working knowledge of the Building Act 1975 (Qld), Building Regulation 2021 (Qld), Planning Act 2016 (Qld), the NCC (Vol 1 & 2), referenced Australian Standards and relevant QDC parts.
- Previous experience with other building legislation/policies is also desirable, such as Department of Defence’s Building Works Manual and Manual of Fire Protection Engineering
- Excellent organisation, time management, communication and stakeholder skills, with a practical, best-for-project approach.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to professional standards and client outcomes.
- Must be an Australian Citizen (ability to achieve federal security clearance is essential for this role).
Why Philip Chun
- Attractive salary package aligned to experience/accreditation.
- Paid CPD & annual accreditation renewals + relevant industry memberships.
- Additional 3 days’ paid leave between Christmas and New Year.
- Varied, high-profile projects with access to senior mentors and a national knowledge network.
