The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) is a statutory authority responsible for managing Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors. We work with government and stakeholders to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of Victoria’s fisheries and aquaculture industries, while promoting sustainable and responsible practices. The VFA supports the development of sustainable recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture activities in Victoria and delivers recreational fishing and boating infrastructure projects and programs. The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.
The Role
Position: People and Culture Advisor
As a People and Culture Advisor, you will provide operational support services and advice to Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) staff and managers. This role is responsible for delivering a People and Culture generalist advice and support on a tactical and operational basis to all client groups across the VFA. It has a particular emphasis on day to day employee and manager support, recruitment, reporting, internal staff People and Culture communications and the performance review process, whilst maintaining alignment to HR policies and procedures.
Key accountabilities
- First point of contact for any People and Culture enquiries, including liaising with payroll, systems and analytics and assisting the business with understanding and implementing HR policies and processes while developing and maintaining collaborative and productive working relationships with Managers, the wider VFA staff and other key stakeholders.
- Assist VFA recruitment by working with VFA managers on best practice recruitment and to establish workforce needs and provide critical support in resource management.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of workforce reporting and VPSC annual workforce reports. Prepare other quarterly and ad hoc HR reports required for the Executive and VFA Board and People and Safety Committee.
- Assist in the performance and development process and mid cycle reviews to ensure that cycle timelines are met.
- Efficient management of the VFA employee lifecycle including coordination of, off boarding, exit interviews and reporting.
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing information and enquiries are managed and documented in a timely and sensitive manner to ensure that there is effective communication, understanding and information flow whilst providing appropriate sensitivity, confidentiality and privacy. Work with all relevant parties to ensure resolution is met.
- Assist with projects, purchasing and other administrative tasks as required.
- Assist with the preparation of internal communications to staff via email, newsletter and intranet on HR related matters.
- Position management and maintenance of organisational charts.
The Team
The position of People and Culture Advisor will work within Human Resources branch, which sits within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) group.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical working experience in an advisor or business partner role, particularly with experience in recruitment, enterprise agreement interpretation, HR operational processing and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to provide clear and concise advice to all levels of management and staff on a diverse range of issues associated with conditions of employment.
- Good understanding and experience using various HRIS software programs and Microsoft products.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to maintain the highest standards of employee data management integrity and reporting capability.
- Committed to delivering high quality outcomes for VFA Managers and staff: listens and actively seeks to meet their needs and seeks ways to improve services. Plans and prioritises work to ensure outcomes are achieved within the required timeframes with a high attention to detail.
- Seeks all relevant information for problem-solving; investigates and probes for the facts; liaises with stakeholders; analyses issues from different perspectives and draws sound inferences from information available; identifies and proposes workable solutions to problems.
