Finance Manager - Commercial Constructions
Directly reporting to the Finance Business Partner - Construction & Retail, the Finance Manager will work closely with the General Manager Constructions and be responsible for all financial aspects of the construction operations within the Commercial Construction business segment. The Finance Manager will manage a small team of finance professionals and will develop a close working relationship with the construction managers and estimating team to ensure the development and implementation of consistent business processes across the various contracting entities and projects. The role will work closely with the Finance Business Partner - Construction & Retail to ensure system and process alignment across all operations in the group.
Responsibilities
- Construction Management: Review & development of internal controls/processes around job estimating, work-in-progress, cost management and progress claims
- Construction Management: Assist operational team with tender submission requirements
- Construction Management: Assist project managers in analysing job variances and future improvements
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Preparation of annual 3-way budgets (P&L, Cashflow & Balance Sheet)
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Manage ongoing 3-way forecasts to update monthly business units / segment rolling annual and long-term forecasts
- Treasury & Working Capital Management: Preparation of weekly cash forecasts (8 week)
- Treasury & Working Capital Management: Analysis and explanation of any variations to forecast working capital requirements
- Treasury & Working Capital Management: Approval of weekly AP payments ensuring key suppliers are being paid within payment terms
- Month End: Accounting control over cut-off deadlines and integrity review of data uploaded into group reporting tool (PowerBI)
- Month End: Responsibility for general ledgers of all commercial construction entities
- Month End: Ownership of processing timeliness/accuracy of AP/AR transactions
- Month End: Review & analysis of monthly P&L, balance sheet and cashflow movements against budget and reforecasts
- Month End: Preparation and presentation of financial information to senior management as part of monthly management meetings
- Month End: Assistance with tax queries from tax manager to help facilitate group bi-annual tax effect accounting schedules
- Month End: Review of monthly GST reporting to ensure accurate inclusion in the monthly Group BAS return
- Month End: Assist with any audit queries as a result of the annual audit and half-yearly review in respect of commercial construction operations
- Month End: Assist construction management with attaining relevant construction certifications as required
Knowledge, experience and attributes sought
Qualifications
- University degree in accounting or similar major
- CA or CPA membership
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in a similar role and industry
- CA or CPA membership
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines
- Superior written and verbal communication
- Superior analytical skills and ability to explain variances
- Intermediate to advanced Excel and other MS Office skills
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders across a business
- Ability to apply strategic and flexible thought processes to achieve positive outcomes
- Experience in month end reporting and budgeting
- Experience in construction is highly desirable
