Project Manager - Science and Engineering
Company: Scimita Ventures
Location: Sydney, Australia
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 per year
Scimita Ventures is an agile technology development and commercialisation business that deploys 'cutting edge science' to produce 'leading edge innovation'. Founded in 2017, Scimita is where research meets commercialisation, where academia meets creativity, a melting pot of bright minds turning ideas into reality/products.
We are currently seeking a Scientific Project Manager to join our dynamic team and make critical contributions to our scale-up and innovation projects. This pivotal role ensures that our projects are executed smoothly, maximise value, and result in satisfied project teams, internal stakeholders, and clients.
The successful candidate will be applying Agile-based project management methodologies to commercialisation-focussed innovation projects within a science and engineering setting. Whilst they do have a technical background, they maintain a high-level view of the project, utilising a multi-discipline and multi-organisation team of technical professionals to achieve desired outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Translate business strategy into appropriate project requirements, as relevant to both Scimita and our clients.
Lead our projects from inception to completion, filling the roles of project owner and/or scrum master alongside our technical leads and project teams.
Execute our projects on time, within budget, and to our internal quality standards that ensure client satisfaction. This includes managing the scope, timeline, budget, resource allocation, project backlog, risk register, and epics and goals within your allocated project(s).
Apply different project management methodologies, ranging from Agile to waterfall, depending on project requirements. While we principally apply Agile practices, traditional methods are occasionally more suitable.
Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, to facilitate alignment on project goals and maximise the delivery of value.
Own quality control, ensuring team-wide compliance with relevant standards, processes, best practices, and client expectations, by ensuring appropriate documentation is produced and maintained with a high degree of visibility.
Form and maintain meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with relevant third parties including research institutions, design firms, IP professionals, prospective customers, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies, and suitable contractors.
Conduct comprehensive reviews of work submitted by project stakeholders, assessing technical accuracy and the adequacy of the solutions proposed.
Qualifications and Skills:
The ideal candidate for this job will be/have:
A bachelor’s degree (at minimum) in a science-related discipline.
Project management-related qualification or certification. Examples include a bachelor or post-graduate degree in project management, a PMP, PRINCE2, Six Sigma and/or AgilePM certification, and/or being a CSM.
Proven experience as a Project Manager (2+ years preferred) with a track record of successfully leading complex technical projects from inception to completion.
A demonstrable understanding of the commercialisation of technologies, products, and processes will be highly regarded.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflict and motivate people.
Ability to take ownership of the project(s) you work on and are hands on in the analysis of gaps and resolution of issues.
Proficient in the use of common enterprise tools as well as having a good grasp on recent innovations. Overall, you are technically adept and do not struggle with learning new technologies.
Comfortable with work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
Open minded and able to adapt quickly to new information and stakeholder requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organised with a keen eye for detail.
Why Join Us?
At Scimita Ventures, you’ll be part of an innovative and collaborative environment that values creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on problem-solving.
