An opportunity exists for a highly skilled Otolaryngologist with subspecialty expertise in otology, cochlear implantation and lateral skull base surgery to join the Otolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery Department as a Visiting Medical Officer.

Where you'll be working

Prince of Wales Hospital is a major tertiary referral, teaching and research hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. As part of the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, it provides complex and high-acuity surgical services, including advanced otology, cochlear implantation and lateral skull base surgery. We maintain strong academic affiliations with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), offering world-class teaching and research opportunities.

What you'll be doing

- Provide expert surgical services in cochlear implantation, general otology and lateral skull base surgery.

- Contribute to the management of general ENT emergencies, including acute airway, trauma and infection.

- Provide an at least monthly outpatient service specialising in, but not limited to, otology.

- Participate actively in clinical and biological research, including representation at national and international meetings.

- Deliver high-quality teaching and supervision of medical students and trainees through the UNSW program.

- Take a leadership role in departmental governance, quality improvement and service development.

- Promote leadership and excellence in clinical care.

- Contribute to high standards of professional behaviours held at Prince of Wales, including supervision and training of junior medical staff.

The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

All applications must include a demonstration of your ability to meet each of the selection criteria in order to progress through the recruitment process.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide on application AHPRA Registration Number.

- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, or equivalent specialist recognition.

- Demonstrated expertise and recent experience in otology, cochlear implantation and lateral skull base surgery.

- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.

- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.

- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
