About the Legal Counsel – Commercial role

We are seeking an 4-7 PQE lawyer with tech and commercial experience for an in-house role, with an ideal commencement of late February/early March 2025. We are open to the role being full time or part time. The role may be located in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane or Canberra.

The Legal Counsel – Commercial supports Alcidion’s operations by managing regulatory, contractual, and commercial risks across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. This includes advising on leasing, supplier contracts, insurance, employment law, and strategic initiatives including M&A.

The Legal Counsel – Commercial reports to the COO and is the sole legal resource internally. Key responsibilities involve:

1. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for software licensing and professional services;
2. Advising on government tenders;
3. Protecting intellectual property;
4. Ensuring regulatory compliance;
5. Managing supplier relationships;
6. Overseeing external legal providers;
7. Mitigating legal risks;
8. Providing strategic advice to management and the board.

About you

You work well autonomously and you are engaging, confident and flexible in your working style. You have strong attention to detail, and time management skills.

Your background includes:

1. 4–7 years PQE with in-house experience in a technology company or in a commercial/tech law firm practice in Australia;
2. Expertise in drafting and negotiating contracts, including SaaS agreements, Terms of Service, and partnership agreements;
3. Experience with procurement agreements;
4. Knowledge of intellectual property and privacy law.

The following will be considered favourably:

1. Experience handling commercial/legal issues for a small to medium-sized, ASX-listed, global company;
2. Law degree with admission to practice in the UK and/or New Zealand;
3. Combined law degree with a business or financial qualification;
4. Familiarity with healthcare regulations, including medical device laws.
