Details: An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Crime Prevention and Policing Team for a Senior Policy Officer/Assistant Director (Senior Officer Grade C).

In this role, working closely with the Director and Senior Director you will undertake a range of activities that may include:

- Strategic policy development for people in contact with the justice system including diversionary options, crime prevention, reducing reoffending or addressing the underlying causes of crime
- Manage procurement and programs to deliver crime prevention, justice and community cohesion outcomes
- Design and manage the evaluation of policy initiatives
- Engage with a range of justice system and community stakeholders on policy development and operational impacts
- Provide advice on policing policy and support managing the ACT Government’s arrangements for ACT Policing
- Provide high quality analysis on crime trends and data.

The role provides an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and deliver policy and programs that make a significant contribution to the Government’s justice reform and community safety agenda with a tangible impact on the Canberra community.

The position would suit candidates with diverse experience and expertise including criminology and sociology, social policy development, legal qualifications or program development and management.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in criminology, law, social science or a related field, or significant study towards gaining qualifications, would be highly desirable.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 30 April 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.

A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.

There is a proposed strategic realignment currently under consideration within the Justice and Community Safety Directorate which would impact this role’s reporting lines. Further information regarding this potential change can be sought from the contact officer.
