Your role as a Communications Officer
The Communications Officer is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering communications across the organisation. This role works collaboratively with staff across all programs to gather information and stories and then shares these through various channels to promote the impact of Centacare NENW in the community. This is a hands-on role that manages day-to-day communications activities, including content creation, digital and social media management, collateral development, and reporting on communication outcomes.

We provide a wide range of social welfare services to support individuals, families, and the broader community. You’re a natural storyteller with excellent writing and editing skills. You bring creativity, attention to detail and strong digital know-how, with experience managing social media and content for diverse audiences. You thrive in a collaborative environment, balancing multiple projects while keeping an eye on impact and outcomes.
Job Description
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for a talented Communications Officer to help bring our story to life and strengthen our connection with the community. This is an exciting opportunity to use your creativity and communication skills to make a real impact in a values-driven organisation.
In this role, you will:
- Create, edit and share content that highlights our programs and impact across multiple channels — website, social media, newsletters, reports and print.
- Manage our social media platforms and website, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and strong audience engagement.
- Support internal communications so staff feel informed and connected across programs.
- Coordinate the production of marketing and communication materials, ensuring consistency and brand alignment.
- Assist with drafting media releases and liaising with media outlets.
- Monitor, track and report on communications performance, providing insights for improvement.

Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Qualifications in communications, marketing, media or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences.
- Ability to build relationships across programs and work collaboratively to gather and share information.
- Proficiency with digital communication tools (e.g. Canva).
- Experience in event promotion, coordination or community engagement campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience in content creation across digital and print channels.
- Experience managing organisational social media platforms and websites.
- Understanding of project management tools and their application to communication projects.
- Experience with analytics and reporting tools to measure communication effectiveness.
