Marketing, Communication and Media Relations

Prepare strategic communication and marketing campaigns under relevant policies that align with the organisation’s future directions detailed in the Plan for the Future and Strategic Community Plan.

Build rapport with journalists and other news / media providers to develop a targeted publicity program.

Draft and distribute media releases as per the Shire’s Communication Strategy.

Respond to media enquiries in line with relevant polices and the Shire’s Communication Strategy.

Strategic Branding and Positioning

Work with the Council and Chief Executive Officer to develop and implement Shire of Capel Corporate Strategic Branding and Positioning.

Develop relationships with key industry bodies, other local governments and state / federal government agencies.

Investigate new opportunities to work with industry stakeholders to build reputation consistent with the Shire’s strategic branding and positioning.

Prepare contentious issues briefings, background research and presentations for the Shire President and CEO as required.

Develop and implement the Shire’s visitation branding and marketing, in collaboration with the Economic Development Officer who is responsible for tourism project planning and delivery.

Brand Management

Plan, develop and create compelling written / published content and documentation to engage key audiences.

Plan, develop and create compelling signage campaigns and programs for use throughout the Shire that aligns to and enhances brand and promotion.

Maintain and champion our brand through consistent use of the Style Manual.

Ensure brand compliance for internal and external facing assets.

Ensure our brand supports and represents the organisation’s strategic position.

Write and graphic design corporate documents including annual reports, budgets, and plans.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Oversee the planning, development and implementation of effective communication initiatives using a cross range of digital and traditional media channels.

Provide expert advice and mentoring to project teams in the development and implementation of community engagement and informing strategies.

Support teams to design engagement approaches tailored to project scale, risk, and impact on the community.

Coach staff on applying engagement principles to ensure consistency and alignment with organisational values.

Qualifications Required

- Tertiary qualification in strategic communications, public relations, marketing or similar.

- Previous high-level experience in communications, public relations or marketing.

- High level verbal and written skills with a demonstrated ability in grammar and language.

- High level computer literacy, particularly MS Office 365.

- Demonstrate digital media experience in website maintenance and social media management.

- Excellent knowledge of communications strategies and channels.

- Experience in the production of media releases.

- Strong report writing skills for a range of audiences.

- Current C or CA class drivers licence.

- Knowledge and/or experience in local government and proficiency with Adobe creative suite, WordPress, Hootsuite, Mail Chimp, SharePoint and Google data studio will be highly regarded.
