Ophthalmology Theatre Coordinator

The Ophthalmology service is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will be responsible for leading a team of bookers and working closely alongside medical and nursing staff to ensure patients have access to timely surgical treatment.

Main duties of the job

An understanding of RTT and pathway tracking is essential, including a willingness to learn and problem solve, often on the spot. This is a fast‑moving service with 24 theatre lists running each week.

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full‑time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full‑time permanent contract unless you have: applied for a Graduate visa, or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment, or the Trust has agreed that they will sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment.

Person Specification

Qualifications

- GCSE or equivalent Maths and English.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

Experience

- Proven experience in a senior administrative position, preferably within the NHS.

- Strong administrative/management skills including effective communication, team working and negotiation skills.

- Ability to analyse complex problems.

- Experience of dealing with general public both on telephone and in person in a busy environment.

- Experience of working with surgical waiting lists and tracking patients through their 18 week pathways.

- Working within a multidisciplinary team.

- Practical experience of managing projects and working in a large, complex organisation.

Knowledge

- Good understanding of confidentiality and data quality issues.

- Sound knowledge of office procedures.

- Medical terminology.

- Trust policies and procedures for managing staff.

- Excellent understanding of importance of NHS performance targets and initiatives.

- Knowledge of the Trust including awareness of priorities.

- Knowledge of Trust information systems EPIC, Envoy and MyChart.

- Knowledge of RTT targets.

Skills

- Strong administrative/management skills including effective communication, team working and negotiation skills.

- Ability to influence others positively and act as a role model within a small team.

- Good computer skills in particular MS office/Microsoft outlook.

- Good time management and organisational skills to meet tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure.

- Maintain a calm and professional manner when dealing with challenging people and distressed patients.

- Ability to prioritise own workload and help others to prioritise.

- Use of EPIC or other computerised hospital databases.

- Ability to think laterally and an innovative approach to problem solving.

- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of safe, kind, excellent.
