Do you identify as Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander and have excellent engagement skills with clients and good knowledge of Aboriginal health services?

Health Services are recruiting for an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to complement and enhance the current Health Services Team.

You will be working to improve Aboriginal health and making hospital and emergency department care more culturally responsive. This position entails working with Aboriginal patients and their families and Aboriginal specific and generalist health and community agencies.

**The position will involve some evening work - shared with the other Aboriginal Liaison Officers at Liverpool Hospital.**

**What You'll be Doing**
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients/carers/consumers in hospital settings.

The position is required to work as part of the hospital multidisciplinary team in order to:

- Ensure the health, psychosocial and cultural needs of Aboriginal patients and their families/carers are taken into account when care is being provided.
- Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families/carers to build their health literacy and capacity to manage their health issues.

The ALO is required to work effectively with staff of the hospital and other agencies including local Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and related community based services, in order to provide support and assistance to patients/carers/consumers receiving care from the hospital and community health services.

The position is also responsible for supporting Aboriginal patients attending Emergency Department and / or supporting the effective transfer of care arrangements for Aboriginal patients to ensure they are linked to appropriate community based services.

**Where You'll Be Working**
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

- Relevant qualification (graduate or non-graduate) related to Aboriginal Health, Health or Community Services and / or relevant experience as an Aboriginal Health Worker (willingness to learn and commitment to undertaking further education).
- Demonstrated experience delivering culturally responsive health services to Aboriginal communities
- Ability to undertake health/social needs assessments that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal culture and social issues in relation to health matters; and make referrals to community service providers.
- Demonstrated experience in networking, demonstrating a broad knowledge of the services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and sound computer skills.
