Heritage NSW is seeking Aboriginal Heritage Officer to contribute to heritage initiatives, programs and services

**This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).**

**About You**

This is an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal Heritage Officer to join Heritage NSW As the Aboriginal Heritage Officer, you will join a small and supportive team to help deliver heritage initiatives, programs, and services for Aboriginal and environmental heritage matters.
As the Aboriginal Heritage Officer, a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage matters gained through tertiary qualification or experience in a relative field will be key to your success. You’ll provide sound advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matter to a range of stakeholders including schools, the local communities, government agencies, interest groups. As these stakeholders are in various locations, you’ll be willing to undertake travel and hold a current driver’s licence.
The Aboriginal Heritage Officer will help identify state significant sites and potential Aboriginal areas for protection and conservation and enhance the awareness of the land managers and communities regarding site management, conservation, and recommendations for protection.
In this role, your ability to exercise sensitivity will allow you to navigate complex issues and contribute towards positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal and cultural heritage matters.

**Essential Requirements**
- Tertiary qualifications or sound experience in heritage, Aboriginal cultural heritage, or relevant field.
- Driver’s License and willingness to travel.
- This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
1. is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and

2. identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and

3. is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
