**About the Medical Genomics Group**:
The Medical Genomics Group undertakes data driven research with the aim to understand disease by analysing the information encoded by the genome. We have a focus on cancer genomics and analyse data from a variety of next generation sequence based approaches. We are a large laboratory of bioinformaticians and cancer biologists who work closely with local, national, and international collaborators. We will work with you to kick-start or further grow your career through funding conference attendance and ensuring you have the opportunity to work on problems that matter, and learn from experienced technical and scientific leaders.

**Role Purpose / Responsibilities**:
The following duties will apply:

- Assemble, analyse and interpret patient data sets
- Use omics data to determine the impact of mutations
- Communicate findings through papers and conference presentations
- Ensure work practices comply with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute's WH&S policies and procedures.

**About you**:
The role calls for an experienced data scientist or bioinformatician with the following skills:

- A doctoral qualification (PhD) or MSc in a relevant discipline such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics, or 2+ years of relevant experience
- Strong background in data analysis and interpretation of multi-modal data
- High proficiency with R or Python for data analysis and visualisation
- Proven track record of processing and deriving novel insights from omics datasets and related resources, such as TCGA
- Experience using the Linux/Unix Operating System
- Strong interest in cancer research and a desire to further a career in science
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ways to stand out:

- A good track record and publications in Bioinformatics and/or machine learning

**Remuneration**:Salary range is $82,369.49 to $119,010 p.a. depending on experience plus super, plus salary packaging. This is a fixed term, full-time, 2 year appointment with possible extension.
