Your Opportunity
While Operations and Maintenance Officers may spend much of their time on one particular function (e.g. maintenance or grounds), they are required at all times to respond in other areas to ensure the safe and efficient use of campus facility and to respond to workload demands, unforeseen or unusual circumstances.
Operations and Maintenance Officers are required to be security-conscious and respond to security and first aid requests at all times.
This position sits within the Infrastructure and Assets portfolio and reports to the Infrastructure Coordinator.
This is a Temporary, Full-Time opportunity until 13 September 2024 unless otherwise determined.
The position will be based primarily at Mount Gravatt however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
- Provide first aid services as required and act as a member of the Emergency Response Team and assist in the effective conduct of drills, evacuations, etc.
- Prepare requisitions for the purchase or replacement of materials and equipment when requested and maintain records as required (e.g. Fleet management).
- Use both computerised and manual systems as they relate to the duties of the position.
- Use a range of equipment and tools including: blowers, vacuums, drills, mowers, whipper-snippers, brooms, mops, rakes, secateurs, polishers, hoses and a range of general tools.
- Perform daily labouring tasks. For example, painting, minor repairs, event set-up, assist with unloading, moving and storing equipment, including shifting furniture, setting up displays, etc.
- Ensure organisational vehicles are maintained in a clean and tidy condition.
- Carry out cleaning, grounds, stores, printing and other related duties as required to respond to unusual workload demands.
- Maintain a safe work environment in relation to facilities operations, ensuring adherence to Departmental and Institute policies and procedures and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

- Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to carry out a range of diverse tasks within required timelines while working without close supervision.
- Demonstrated ability in carrying out duties in at least two of the following areas: cleaning, general maintenance, grounds, security, stores, or driving duties.
- Ability to use a range of equipment and tools to carry out the functions of the position.
- Well developed communication skills, preferably in a service environment.
- Sound understanding of, and demonstrated commitment to, workplace health and safety including manual handling, machinery and equipment operation and storing and using chemicals.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements
- Possession of a 'C' class licence

**Note**: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.
Highly Desirable Requirements
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a current First Aid Certificate
- Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a current Forklift Licence
