About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

Property Services leads the departments property acquisitions, disposals, lease management, accommodation planning and development approvals functions, including ministerial designations. The team works closely with the private sector and other government agencies, including the Department of Energy and Public Works to strategically manage the diverse building, construction, maintenance and leasing activities across all QFES property and billboard assets, and provides strategic advice to ensure accommodation, design and marketing requirements are in line with whole-of-government legislation and achieve value for money in workplace design and construction.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for leading a small team that deals with complex property transactions, lease management, strategic investigations, land management and tenure related matters to achieve successful implementation of annual and on-going programs of work. You will be required to provide high level policy advice and coordinate investigations and other activities relating to the divestment, re-investment and redevelopment of QFES facilities across the state.

- Experience in property transaction management and/or relevant qualifications in Town Planning, Property Economics, Valuation, Engineering, Project Management or Quantity Surveying.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Provide expert, pragmatic and evidence-based advice, and recommendations to key stakeholders and executive management to ensure property and facility services meets organisational requirements.
- Manage the effective delivery and reporting of projects across the property portfolio, including overseeing the effective use of the team's resources, and management of contracts and consultancies.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and review of best practice strategies, policy, systems and processes, ensuring compliance with strategic objectives and legislative requirements.
- Prepare and review complex reports, submissions and briefings and ensure accurate and appropriate response to ministerial and QFES correspondence in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Represent QFES at meetings and manage liaison and coordination with key stakeholders in building awareness and strengthening property and facility management and services.
- Consult, liaise, negotiate and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure services, solutions and governance is maintained.
- Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team, fostering positive teamwork and assisting in the ongoing development of staff through performance, planning and review.
