As Deputy Secretary, you can also expect to:

- Along with your colleagues, build and maintain a whole-of-department strategic policy delivery capability to provide advice on emerging and priority issues, including those relating to First Nations outcomes
- Build and maintain effective and productive networks across portfolio agencies, government, academia, and the private sector
- Ensure there are effective quality assurance protocols and business planning arrangements to support the delivery of timely and high-quality outputs
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies that strengthen the department’s inclusive culture
- Represent the department at a wide range of government, industry, and public forums, including presenting keynote addresses and Ministerial briefings.

**Who are we looking for?**
To be successful in this role, you will have a diverse background in the development and implementation of public policy and you will have a demonstrated ability in analysis, reform and successful delivery. You will have a proven track record in understanding contemporary cross-jurisdictional issues, both domestic and global, and identifying areas for innovation and transformation. You will be confident and comfortable in working in a rapidly changing environment and possess excellent stakeholder and people management skills. You will be committed to excellence and have a strong record of achievement in leading complex teams and projects, and managing resources.

As Deputy Secretary, Communications and Media Group, you will:

- Provide authoritative advice on communications and media policy, regulation, programs and major reform, and oversee the government’s shareholding interests in Australia Post and the National Broadband Network.
- Take accountability for program development and planning including resource negotiation and implementation.
- Consider multiple options to resolve complex problems and develop innovative and realistic solutions.
- Efficiently and effectively assess environmental factors, identifying relationships between complex issues and developing contingency plans to mitigate risks to the achievement of government priorities.
- Lead the implementation of programs and balance resources in order to optimise both the efficiency and effectiveness of outcomes under their control.
- Deliver outcomes aligned with Government priorities and the department’s vision and purpose - within allocated resources.
- Demonstrate commitment to Australian Public Service (APS) stewardship and departmental activities.
- Create an environment of integrity, accountability and transparency.
- Provide leadership as part of the Department’s Senior Leadership Team.

As Deputy Secretary, you must demonstrate that you are a collaborative and agile leader with the ability to drive broad transformational change, both internal and external to the department.

You must have the demonstrated ability to provide strategic and operational leadership to your relevant business area, and actively build effective, robust and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support the department’s Executives to lead and deliver their objectives.
