Research Assistant or Research Officer - Vince Lab

**Job Description**:
An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer (RO) or Research Assistant (RA) to join the Vince Laboratory in the Inflammation Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

The appointee will be working under the supervision of A/Prof. James Vince. The Vince laboratory studies the molecules that govern the often-connected processes of cell death and inflammation. Loss of control of cell death and inflammation underpins diseases such as sepsis, arthritis and cancer. The lab’s research focuses on the receptors and molecular signalling networks that cause cell death and inflammation in order to understand how these processes are controlled, as a basis for new treatments.

The appointee will have significant experience in molecular biology. In particular, they will be familiar with genetic engineering incorporating all stages of cloning, genetic targeting using CRISPR/Cas9, cell transfection and viral production and infection of cell lines. Other desirable techniques include knowledge in mRNA synthesis and purification, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, tissue culture and ELISA analysis. Additional experience in animal models relating to cell death, infection and/or inflammation will also be viewed favourably.

Personal Qualities- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, new methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers- Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable

Knowledge and skills- A relevant science degree with honours (RA) or doctoral qualification or equivalent (RO only)- An excellent academic record and achievements- Demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research- Research experience that has resulted in publications, conference papers or reports (RO only)- Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes

Terms of Appointment

This position is available for 1-2 years in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee (RE) Level A ($82,334 - $100,270) for a RO, or Research Support Employee (RSE) Level 4 ($68,078 - $72,254) for a RA. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
