Our mandate is to collect, preserve and share the remarkable story of the Australian audio-visual experience through the creativity and history represented in film, television, radio, recorded sound, augmented reality, online, videogames and associated contextual documentation and ephemera. Our primary focus is on Australian production and Australian related production, but we also address key international influences on our culture.

The Curatorial and Accessioning Section in the Collection Branch is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Manager for its new Curatorial Operations team. The successful applicant will be eager to embrace and celebrate the ambitious and rewarding challenges of archiving Australia’s audiovisual history in the 21st century. As Manager of Curatorial Operations, you will contribute to the development and implementation of required digital infrastructure, workflows and training which support curatorial and accessioning activity. You will lead a team of skilled staff to contribute to the work of developing and managing the national audiovisual collection.

The NFSA is committed to developing its collection through the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

The position sits within the Curatorial Operations reporting line whose primary focus is oversight and management of the delivery of Curatorial and Accessioning infrastructure, procedural development and accessioning training coordination for the section. The Manager will report to the Chief Curator and work collegiately and collaboratively with the Curatorial and Accessioning section’s leadership team to provide operational cohesion and clarity.

Under limited direction undertake the following duties:

- Manage the development, implementation and delivery of key Curatorial and Accessioning infrastructure projects, workflows and programs including: Media Acquisition Portal; Digital Asset Management System; digital storage and delivery solutions; and major LTO migration of digital archival materials.
- Provide guidance, advice and support for the Curatorial and Accessioning Section and NFSA business units, including oversight of Preservation Queues. Be the central liaison to the rest of the agency for operational and infrastructure development including data analytics, digital workflows and maintenance of archival standards.
- Oversight and coordination of training programs and accessioning activities for Curatorial and Accessioning staff and other NFSA staff, where relevant, in line with archival and museological standards and Curatorial priorities
- Initiate and undertake client liaison work, building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, industry and professional networks.
- Participate and lead as the Manager of the Curatorial Operations team in planning and implementation of section goals; and manage a small team of specialist staff responsible for the functions of the Operations team, as well as data integrity, data quality and data management to ensure the findability of items in the National Collection....
- Assist and advise the Chief Curator on key administrative reporting matters including business planning, budget planning and expenditure, government reporting requirements, and statistics as relates to the work of the Curatorial Operations team.
- Represent NFSA and Curatorial Operations in appropriate forums, including preparation and presentation of papers, presentations, exhibitions, demonstrations and other expositions of the national audiovisual collection and the work of the NFSA.
