**The Opportunity**:

- The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for an APS6 Program Manager within the Art Collections team. The Parliament House Art Collections are nationally significant collections consisting of more than 6,500 works spanning all genres of Australian art. The Art Collections perform a unique role in the life and working environment of Parliament House.
- The collections were created to be an essential element of the building’s architectural fabric and working life reflecting the unique qualities of Australia. They include the Historic Memorials Collection, Parliament House Art/Craft Program (architectural commissions), Official Gifts Collection, and Rotational Collection of contemporary and Indigenous artworks. The Art Collections team is responsible for the custody, care, development, and promotion of the Parliament House Art Collections.

**Who we are looking for**:
Tertiary qualifications in History, Visual Arts, Museum and Heritage Studies, Australian History, Political Science and Research, or a similar field would be highly desirable.
Previous experience using Vernon Collection Management System (CMS) software will also be highly regarded.

**Job Specific Requirements**:

- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

**Immediate supervisor**:Assistant Director, Programs and Engagement
- Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 6 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Manage a range of projects and programs for the Art Collections section including the delivery of services to parliamentarians, temporary exhibitions and large-scale collection movement projects such as election changeovers and refurbishments ensuring that timelines, budgets and all appropriate standards are met.
- Supervise the activities of a small team, casual staff and contractors to deliver timely and efficient services to parliamentarians and facilitate high quality exhibitions and displays.
- Develop, implement and monitor appropriate documentation, procedures and policies for the management of service delivery activities, interpretation and signage, and temporary exhibitions and displays.
- Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including parliamentarians, cultural institutions, artists and curators, and manage inward loans to the Parliament for exhibitions and displays.
- Provide curatorial advice where required and oversee the production of interpretive text for works on display.
- Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice._

**Selection Criteria**:

- Demonstrated high level analytical and planning skills and the ability to employ project management tools and maintain processes in order to manage and deliver multiple projects and programs with conflicting timeframes.
- Highly developed leadership and people management skills and the ability to lead, motivate and manage a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in museum practices and procedures including registration, conservation, movement, display, and interpretation of works of art.
- Demonstrated highly developed written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to liaise and negotiate professionally and effectively with a wide range of individuals in stressful situations.
- Excellent judgement and the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work with initiative under limited supervision and to identify situations warranting the advice of senior colleagues.
- A broad knowledge of Australian contemporary art and culture.
- Eligible Qualifications and/or other Requirements. Tertiary qualifications in Visual Arts, Art History, Cultural Heritage Management, or a similar field and/or relevant extensive work experience in a gallery, museum or similar organisation.
