**About the teams**:
The Fuel Quality Team is the Government’s central policy area for developing solutions to improve the quality of Australia’s fuel, considering the benefits for all Australians. The team is currently undertaking a major review of fuel quality standards and developing new renewable fuel standards. The team is also developing grants programs to assist industry supply better quality fuels. Being an Assistant Director leading on fuel quality policy means you will regularly engage with industry experts, and analyse fuel quality parameters to improve and implement new fuel quality standards.

The role of the Critical Vulnerabilities Team is to understand and address vulnerabilities in the fuel market that can disrupt Australia’s energy security. This includes current risks, and emerging risks as the fuel dependant sectors of our economy transition to Net Zero Emissions by 2050. Key deliverables include design and implementation of the Government’s $49.5 million package over four years to build resilience in Australia’s diesel exhaust fluid market, policy analysis and advice on fuel market vulnerability, and contribution across government on liquid fuel security policy.

Our ideal **Petroleum Data Assistant Manager** is someone who:

- enjoys working with data and creating data and insights to inform good decision making
- has experience in data compilation, management and analysis, including proficiency in using tools such as Excel, Power BI and CRM
- has experience in publication and reporting of official datasets, as well as using datasets to provide insights, briefing and analysis to stakeholders
- has good attention to detail, the ability to work independently and can manage staff, projects and regular deadlines
- has experience in leading implementation of new data projects, including embedding new processes and managing team members and industry stakeholders through these changes.

Our ideal **Fuel Quality Assistant Manager** is someone who:

- can understand and interpret technical fuel information to inform policy advice for effective government action.
- can convert technical considerations into outcomes in legislation, such as Australia’s fuel quality standards
- has highly developed written and verbal communication skills, can actively consider stakeholder views and think creatively
- Is strategic with an understanding of how our approach aligns and supports the Department and Government priorities
- is not afraid to 'jump in at the deep end' to help the team meet its deliverables and deadlines
- Relevant experience or qualifications in science or technical legal roles would be an advantage.

Our ideal **Critical Vulnerabilities** **Assistant Manager** is someone who has:

- advanced critical thinking skills, the ability to identify, gather and manipulate data, harness complex information and distil it to provide clear, accurate and timely policy advice
- strong planning and project management skills, the ability to marshal resources and influence others including technical consultants to deliver required products on time and on budget
- strong team work and communication skills and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships within and outside the team, across government and with industry stakeholders
- a familiarity and/or interest in the fuel market and energy security and emissions reduction policy would be an advantage.
