**About the Role**:
The Student Wellbeing Adviser role is the primary point of contact for all student welfare, distress, well-being enquiries and support services. The role will triage all student and staff enquiries, manage presenting issues within the scope of expertise, refer to appropriate internal or external support services, provide comprehensive, general and referral service information in the areas of health, wellbeing, housing, welfare, financial, access and inclusion.

**Duties**:

- Act as the primary point of contact for all student welfare, wellbeing enquiries and support services for students. This involves managing issues within the cope of expertise and presenting issues, and determining the appropriate support required.
- Assist Melbourne Polytechnic staff with initial response support, and conduct mental health wellbeing assessments for students who present in high distress. Support the de-escalation of these situations and prioritise appropriate response.
- Provide secondary consultation to the Melbourne Polytechnic community regarding students who present in distress, and provide appropriate support and referral options.
- Participate in the facilitation and delivery of Mental Health First Aid training across the organisation.
- Provide informed advice to students in the areas of health, wellbeing, housing, welfare, financial, access and inclusion.
- Work closely with other support staff to develop and coordinate activities and events relating to the health and wellbeing, diversity and social inclusion of all students.
- Work with the Student Services Coordinator to develop and review policies and procedures relating to the welfare role within the organisation.
- Provision of support services to Student Complaints Liaison Officer, ensuring the ongoing management of the complaints and appeals process; ensuring complaints and appeals are addressed in accordance with Melbourne Polytechnic's policies and procedures.

**Skills and Experience Required**:

- Relevant degree and relevant work experience; or a suitable combination of lesser qualifications and relevant experience in the Community Services - Student Wellbeing/Welfare sector, or related discipline.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of relevant professional bodies such as AASW, APS or ACWA (provisional status considered).
- A current Working with Children Check Card (Employee).
- A current Drivers License.
- Experience in managing distressed or challenging behaviours, and being able to work in high pressure situations.
- Highly developed organisational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise, monitor and evaluate delivery of programs in an educational/community support environment.
- Strong communication skills, including excellent presentation skills, group facilitation, written, verbal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to manage own workload and adopt flexible work practices as required.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to quickly build rapport and work cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
